The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Olufemi Oluyede, has announced plans to invest heavily in modern technology to enhance the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats in Nigeria.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the closing ceremony of the 2024 COAS Annual Conference, Oluyede emphasized the importance of innovative strategies and realistic training to tackle the nation’s security challenges.
“We deliberated extensively on innovative strategies to confront and ultimately defeat terrorism, banditry, secessionist agitations, and other violent activities that threaten the peace and security of our dear country, Nigeria,” Oluyede said.
He added that in the coming months, the army would invest in advanced technology to improve training and operations. The army also plans to review its specialized training programs and ensure that the best equipment is deployed to its training schools to enhance professional military education and personnel readiness.
The COAS further highlighted efforts to address accommodation shortages within the army, directing the speedy completion of ongoing projects and the initiation of new ones.
“I look forward to establishing a soldier-first cult across the force by ensuring proper attention is paid to soldiers’ welfare. This recognizes their crucial role as the foundation of the Nigerian Army’s strength, operational readiness, and mission success,” Oluyede stated.
With these measures, the Nigerian Army aims to bolster its operational capacity and ensure victory in its ongoing battles.
