Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the 2027 Lagos State governorship race under the All Progressives Congress (APC), just 24 hours after purchasing his nomination forms.
He announced the decision on Thursday during a media briefing at Liberty House, Ikeja, Lagos, which was attended by members of the Lagos4Lagos movement and party supporters.
Jandor said his withdrawal followed recent political developments within the party, including reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had endorsed the incumbent deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as the APC consensus governorship candidate.
“Within hours after I purchased my nomination forms, there were developments, including a meeting involving the President and the Deputy Governor. It was subsequently made known that the President had endorsed Dr. Obafemi Hamzat,” he said.
He explained that his decision was in line with his earlier commitment to align with the direction of party leadership, particularly that of President Bola Tinubu.
“Based on my earlier position that I will align with the direction of the President, I have decided to withdraw from the race,” Jandor stated.
He also appealed to his supporters to remain calm, respect internal party processes, and maintain unity within the APC as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
