INEC Releases Details of Edo Governorship Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the forms and comprehensive details of candidates contesting in the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
This disclosure was made by Timidi Wariowei, the Head of Voter Education and Publicity for the state’s INEC, in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to Wariowei, the particulars of candidates were prominently displayed at the INEC office in Aduwawa, Benin City, as well as in all 18 local government offices across the state.
The publication of candidates’ particulars aligns with electoral regulations, allowing political parties and the general public to access the details of candidates and their running mates.
Wariowei emphasized, “In compliance with the law, today, being March 30, 2024, the INEC Edo State Office and the 18 local government area offices have pasted Form EC9, which contains the personal particulars of the 17 candidates and their deputies. The form also includes the credentials of the candidates.”
He further encouraged parties and the public to visit the local government offices to review the list and gather necessary information.
“We have done this in line with the electoral law, and the public and parties can go to all the local government offices to check the list.”
This announcement follows a directive from Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, urging the Edo INEC to display the particulars ahead of the governorship election.
