The Nigeria Police Force has deployed additional personnel and resources to Rivers State following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency.
Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the deployment in a statement on Thursday, stating that the measure aims to prevent a total breakdown of law and order.
According to intelligence reports, prolonged political unrest in the state poses a growing threat to public safety. In response, the police, in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, have taken steps to stabilize the situation and safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun ordered the reinforcements, warning against unlawful gatherings or protests that could disrupt public peace. He advised aggrieved individuals to seek redress through legal channels rather than resorting to public demonstrations.
The police urged residents to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities, assuring that security forces are fully prepared to take decisive action against any threats.
