Francis Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, has expressed gratitude to God for using Dave Umahi, the current Minister of Works, in his journey to the governorship. Nwifuru, who won the governorship election in March 2023, succeeded Umahi, who had served as the state’s governor.
During an empowerment program on Monday in Ebonyi, organized by Nkemkanma Kama, a member of the House of Representatives for Ohaoazara/Onicha/Ivo federal constituency, Nwifuru described himself as the “greatest beneficiary” of Umahi’s administration. He acknowledged Umahi’s significant role in his political career, including his election as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, a position he held for eight years.
“God would have used another person to make me governor, but Umahi was the only person available to be used,” Nwifuru said. He further explained that Umahi made himself available when God sought a person to elevate him to the position of governor, crediting his predecessor for his influence and leadership.
Nwifuru praised Umahi as a “goal-getter” and expressed pride in having him as a mentor and boss. He commended Umahi’s accomplishments as governor, noting his efforts in promoting peace, advancing infrastructure, and prioritizing human capital development across various sectors.
