Top Nigerian business moguls, including Aliko Dangote and Abdulsamad Rabiu, have pledged billions of naira towards the establishment of a presidential library in honor of former military president, Ibrahim Babangida.
At the fundraising event on Thursday, Dangote announced a donation of ₦6 billion, pledging to contribute ₦2 billion annually for four years. He also vowed to continue supporting the project beyond that timeframe if necessary.
“I will contribute ₦2 billion annually for the next four years, making it ₦8 billion. If the project extends beyond that, I will keep paying ₦2 billion yearly,” Dangote said.
Dangote credited Babangida for shaping Nigeria’s private sector, recalling how the former leader granted banking licenses to nearly 30 individuals in a single day.
BUA Group Chairman, Abdulsamad Rabiu, donated ₦5 billion, praising Babangida’s influence on Nigeria’s economic development.
“We are gathered here not just for a building or an archive, but to honor the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most transformative leaders,” Rabiu stated.
Other notable donations included:
- Theophilus Danjuma – ₦3 billion
- Senate President Godswill Akpabio – ₦50 million
- Arthur Eze – ₦500 million
- Mustafa Chike-Obi – ₦100 million
The presidential library is set to preserve Babangida’s legacy and contributions to Nigeria’s history.
