Former President Muhammadu Buhari has called on governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt a citizen-focused approach to governance, emphasizing the need for leadership that balances responsibility with opportunities for national development.
In a statement from his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari commended the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) for their efforts and expressed optimism about the progress being made by the current APC leadership.
Buhari highlighted the importance of selfless service, drawing on his own experience of leaving office without accumulating additional personal wealth. He also extended gratitude to the Tinubu administration for renovating his Kaduna residence, acknowledging the improvements made while maintaining the external structure of the house.
The former president expressed his appreciation for the governors’ visit during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, recognizing past collaborations with some of the members while noting the arrival of new faces.
Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, led the delegation. Uzodinma lauded Buhari’s enduring legacy, recalling his historic victory as the only opposition candidate to unseat a sitting president. He also commended Buhari’s commitment to democracy, particularly his peaceful handover of power to an APC-led administration.
“Your legacy in Nigerian history is secure. You governed with calm resolve and handed over, with honour, to another APC president. For this, we are extremely grateful,” Uzodinma stated.
The Imo State governor also praised Buhari’s administration for prioritizing security, economic revival, and anti-corruption initiatives, while implementing impactful programs such as the Conditional Cash Transfer, School Feeding Programme, and the Anchor Borrowers Scheme.
Uzodinma further lauded Buhari’s endorsement of President Tinubu, describing it as a significant act of continuity and unity within the APC.
The PGF reaffirmed its commitment to building on Buhari’s legacy, pledging to strengthen progressive governance across Nigeria under President Tinubu’s leadership.
