Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the security structure under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as ineffective in tackling the ongoing wave of killings across the country.
Atiku’s remarks follow the recent deadly attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, he extended condolences to the affected communities while calling for an immediate restructuring of the nation’s security apparatus.
“The failure of President Bola Tinubu’s security architecture has now become an endemic nationwide phenomenon with repeated killings, more of which do not even make the headlines,” he wrote.
“Nigerians are now being forced to get used to such news of wanton killings, and I again offer my condolences to the bereaved communities of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State and the affected families.”
Reiterating a position he has consistently held, Atiku urged the federal government to adopt a more responsive and proactive approach to national security.
“I wish to restate my counsel to the Tinubu-led federal government to reconfigure its security architecture to meet the needs of protecting the lives and properties of our people,” he added.
The resurgence of violence in Plateau has further intensified public concern over the capacity of Nigeria’s security institutions to safeguard citizens amid growing insecurity nationwide.
