Abbas Declares Bid for Fifth Term in House of Representatives

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen has formally declared his intention to seek a fifth term in the House of Representatives of Nigeria.

The declaration was made on Saturday during a political gathering at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria, where thousands of supporters and loyalists participated in a solidarity procession from the Emir’s Palace through Babban Dodo, Lemu, Kofar Doka, and Tudun Wada before arriving at the venue.

Addressing the crowd, Abbas highlighted what he described as the achievements and constituency projects executed since he was first elected in 2011.

“These are not theories. These are visible projects. These are measurable results,” the Speaker said, adding that the interventions had improved livelihoods and empowered residents of Zaria Federal Constituency.

Formally announcing his re-election bid, Abbas stated that his decision was anchored on his performance in office rather than campaign promises.

“Today, I formally declare my intention to seek another mandate to represent the good people of Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives,” he said.

“This declaration is not based on promises alone. It is based on work. It is based on results. It is based on a record that our people can see and verify.”

The Speaker described himself as one of the country’s most active lawmakers, revealing that he had sponsored 74 bills, 21 of which had already been signed into law.

“These were not efforts designed for publicity. They were aimed at solving problems and strengthening governance,” he stated.

Abbas also listed several empowerment initiatives carried out across the constituency, particularly in agriculture, transportation, and support for small businesses.

According to him, farmers received tractors, fertilisers, and agricultural equipment, while transport operators, youth groups, community leaders, and party structures benefited from tricycles and motorcycles aimed at improving livelihoods and mobility.

He disclosed that the interventions included the distribution of:

  • 117 vehicles
  • 200 tricycles
  • 1,000 motorcycles

The Speaker added that 2,400 beneficiaries also received direct financial support.

According to him:

  • 800 trained beneficiaries received ₦250,000 each
  • 1,600 small business owners received ₦100,000 each

“That is practical representation. That is the kind of leadership our people deserve,” Abbas said.
