Stars from across Nigeria and the African continent converged in Lagos on Saturday for the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), where excellence in film, television, and digital storytelling was recognised in a night filled with major wins and emotional moments.

The production My Father’s Shadow emerged as the biggest winner of the night, taking home the Best Movie award and securing Best Director for Akinola Davies Jr., cementing its place as one of the standout works of the edition.

Another strong contender, To Kill A Monkey, also enjoyed multiple victories, including Best Editing and Best Supporting Actor, which went to Bucci Franklin.

Acting Categories

In the acting honours, Uzor Arukwe clinched Best Lead Actor for Colours of Fire. Lateef Adedimeji won Best Indigenous Language (West Africa) for Lisabi: A Legend Is Born, dedicating the award to his wife in an emotional moment following the arrival of their triplets.

In the Indigenous Language (West Africa) category, Lisabi: A Legend Is Born by Lateef Adedimeji took top honours, while Addis Fikir won in the East Africa category. Other nominated titles included The Serpent’s Gift, Labake Olododo, and Olorisha, reflecting the growing diversity and reach of African storytelling.

The AMVCA 2026 further reinforced its status as one of Africa’s premier entertainment awards, spotlighting the continent’s expanding creative influence on global cinema and television.
