Oshiomhole Mocks Atiku, Brands Him ‘Serial Loser’

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has described former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as a “serial loser”, declaring that he is not worried about the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Oshiomhole made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he argued that Atiku’s repeated defeats in presidential elections made him no threat to President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He listed Atiku’s losses in the 2007, 2011, 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, adding that the former vice president left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ADC after failing to secure its presidential ticket.

“Atiku is a serial loser. I am not afraid of him,” Oshiomhole said.

The senator also cited a recent court judgment nullifying the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC and voiding the process that produced Atiku as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, arguing that the former vice president’s ambition was built on an uncertain political foundation.

Oshiomhole said the APC was not concerned about Atiku’s reported move to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) or his alleged plan to form an alliance with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

He argued that Atiku and Obi contested separately in 2023 but both lost to Tinubu, insisting that joining forces ahead of the next election would not change the outcome.

The Edo senator also dismissed Atiku’s promise to restore fuel subsidy if elected, describing it as an attempt to appeal to voters.

He challenged the former vice president to explain what he would do differently, asking whether he intended to scrap the student loan scheme, restore multiple exchange rates or reintroduce fuel subsidy payments.

Oshiomhole contrasted Tinubu’s leadership approach with Atiku’s, saying the President thinks about the next generation, while the former vice president focuses on the next election.
