CAN Seeks Unity as Insecurity Deepens Nationwide

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on Nigerians to remain resilient and refuse to succumb to fear in the face of growing insecurity across the country.

CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made the appeal in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja to mark “Black Sunday,” a day set aside by the association to honour victims of terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

He urged citizens to continue praying for the nation while offering support to families and communities affected by violent attacks.

According to him, Nigeria is currently passing through a difficult phase, but unity, compassion, and sustained prayer remain essential for national healing and stability.

“Let us continue to pray fervently for our nation, support affected families and communities, and refuse to surrender to fear,” Okoh said, adding that God should comfort the bereaved, heal the wounded, and protect the country.

He also prayed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other leaders, asking for wisdom and courage to address the nation’s security challenges effectively.

CAN noted that the “Black Sunday” observance coincided with the Democracy Day period, stressing that the protection of lives and property is central to the survival and success of Nigeria’s democracy.

While commending the House of Representatives for passing the bill on community and state policing, the association urged all levels of government to take urgent and sustained action to improve security nationwide.

Okoh further advised churches, Christian schools, hospitals, and mission institutions to strengthen security awareness and collaborate with local security networks to safeguard their environments.
