Mirra Andreeva Wins First Grand Slam Title at French Open

Teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva captured her maiden Grand Slam title on Saturday after defeating Polish qualifier Maja Chwalińska 6-3, 6-2 in the French Open women’s singles final at Roland Garros.

The 19-year-old overcame a tense start on Court Philippe-Chatrier, where nerves and windy conditions initially disrupted her rhythm. However, she quickly regained control, displaying composure and tactical maturity beyond her years to dominate the match.

Despite early pressure from Chwalińska, who had enjoyed a remarkable underdog run to the final, Andreeva responded by winning nine consecutive games to take command of the contest. She eventually closed out the victory in one hour and 22 minutes.

After sealing match point with a backhand winner, Andreeva collapsed to the clay in celebration before rushing into the stands to embrace her coaching team and family.

“This is actually true, and I can call myself a Grand Slam champion,” she said during the trophy ceremony, describing the moment as surpassing her childhood dreams.

The Russian also paid tribute to her coaching and support team, including her coach Conchita Martínez, a former Wimbledon champion who guided her through the tournament.

Andreeva also credited her sports psychologist for helping her manage pressure, saying she consciously chose to approach matches “as a fighter.”

At 19, she becomes one of the youngest Grand Slam champions in recent tennis history, marking a major milestone in what is widely seen as the beginning of a potentially dominant career on the WTA Tour.
