German authorities on Sunday launched a nationwide manhunt for a suspect following a deadly vehicle attack near Berlin’s Pride festival that killed one person and injured at least 16 others.

Police and prosecutors issued a wanted notice for 21-year-old Abdul B., who is suspected of driving a van into a crowd late Saturday before fleeing the scene.

Investigators said the incident also involved one or more suspects leaving the vehicle after the crash, with several victims reportedly suffering stab wounds during the attack.

Authorities warned the public not to approach the suspect, describing him as potentially armed and dangerous.

“We ask the public to avoid any direct contact,” officials said in the wanted notice, urging anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to immediately notify police.

Earlier Sunday, Berlin police confirmed they had identified a suspect believed to have connections to Islamic groups in the German capital.

“The suspect is known to police. He is known to us as a member of Islamic circles here in Berlin, and our search for this person is proceeding at full speed,” police spokesperson Florian Nath said.

Nath emphasized, however, that investigators had not yet determined the suspect’s motive.

“We currently have no information regarding his specific motives,” he said.

Police carried out multiple operations across Berlin as the search intensified, including a raid on an apartment in the Schöneberg district during the early hours of Sunday. Authorities said the suspect was not found at the location.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as emergency responders rushed to the area.

Julian Miethig, who had attended the Pride festival, said he had been preparing to go to an after-party when a friend alerted him that something had happened nearby.

“He told me something bad happened there, and there were a lot of fire trucks, emergency vehicles and ambulances,” Miethig said.

Authorities have not released further details about the victims or the circumstances surrounding the attack as the investigation continues.

The incident has prompted a major security response, with police continuing to search for the suspect while working to establish the sequence of events and determine whether others were involved.
