Former Kano State Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has denied claims that he and his supporters are planning a nationwide protest over the worsening security situation in the country.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, Kwankwaso described the circulating social media message as false and urged Nigerians to disregard it.
According to him, neither he nor his political associates support actions capable of disrupting public peace or destabilising the country.
“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” he said.
Kwankwaso acknowledged that insecurity remains a serious national challenge requiring urgent attention, but stressed that he does not support any action that could lead to violence, destruction of property or a breakdown of law and order.
“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” he stated.
The former governor reaffirmed his belief in democratic processes, describing elections as the most legitimate means for citizens to seek political change and express dissatisfaction.
“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change,” he added.
Kwankwaso also expressed confidence in the electoral chances of the NDC, saying the party is positioned to secure victory through peaceful and lawful democratic means.
He further warned against the spread of misinformation capable of creating tension in the country and urged Nigerians to ignore those circulating the false claims.
