Fubara Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Loyalty to APC

Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has dismissed reports suggesting that he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that he remains a committed member of the ruling party.

The governor made the clarification during an inspection tour of the newly completed General Hospital and the remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Addressing the speculation surrounding his political future amid ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, Fubara said reports of his defection were false and based on misinterpretations circulating on social media.

“I know that there have been a lot of drama in the media; one story or another. I am a member of the APC and nothing has changed,” he said.

“People should stop using whatever situation that they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly. I’ve not gone anywhere; I’m still a member of the APC and I remain a member.”

The governor added that his focus remained on supporting the overall interest of the party regardless of political developments.

During the inspection, Fubara was taken round the facilities by Vincent Wachukwu, Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the completion of the projects, explaining that they were initiated to address pressing healthcare challenges in the area, particularly mental health concerns and the absence of a nearby general hospital.

According to him, residents previously relied heavily on the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, which he described as too far for many communities.

“We felt that with the space we have in this compound, it will be proper for us to also have a General Hospital situated in this particular facility to take care of the neighboring communities,” he said.

Fubara described the projects as promises fulfilled by his administration, stressing that governance should remain focused on improving the lives of ordinary people.
