Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has introduced the new Force Gender Policy at the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Africa Region training conference currently taking place in Abuja.

The IGP highlighted that the new policy aims to ensure gender sensitivity and inclusivity within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

IGP Egbetokun emphasized the commitment of the current police leadership to promote gender inclusivity at all levels. The conference was inaugurated yesterday by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the President’s wife.

During the event, Senator Tinubu, represented by Rachel Umahi, wife of the Minister of Works, praised the IGP and the IAWP for selecting Nigeria as the host country. She expressed that the conference would enhance the police’s ability to serve Nigeria more effectively.

AIG Aishatu Abubakar Baju, chairman of the central working committee of the IAWP Africa Region and head of the gender unit, announced that the conference will run from July 2 to July 5, 2024. She stated that the theme, “Addressing Africa’s Security Challenges and Safety through Collaboration and Inclusivity,” is particularly relevant. The conference aims to gather women in law enforcement from around the world to share insights, best practices, and strategies for advancing women’s roles in policing and contributing to national security.

Countries participating in the conference include Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Liberia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and South Africa.
