Abiodun Orders Demolition Of A Dilapidated School Building After A Student Dies

Gov. Dapo Abiodun
The Ogun State Government has demolished the impacted block of classrooms at Nazareth High School, Imeko in the Imeko Afon Local Government Area, just days after a student died and two others were injured in a collapsed structure.
The building, which was alleged to have become dilapidated, was demolished over the weekend on the instruction of Governor Dapo Abiodun, according to a statement by Chief Press Secretary to Governor Kunle Somorin.
Somorin went on to state that the governor also ordered the reconstruction of the damaged block of classrooms, stating that any public structure deemed to be in disrepair would be dismantled and rebuilt.
“The state demolished the school building in the wider public interest,” he explained. The structure was revealed to be fragile and, if not dismantled, could fall, injuring more kids.
“Any building within the state that poses a threat to life or property will be demolished,” the statement said, “because we cannot jeopardize citizens’ welfare and wellbeing for the sake of managing sub-standard structures.”
