The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has disclosed that 789 former terrorist fighters are currently participating in the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRR) programme under Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC).
Speaking at the OPSC stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Musa represented by Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, AVM Sayo Olatunde revealed that over 120,000 Boko Haram and ISWAP members, including their families, have surrendered.
He commended stakeholders for their dedication to national security but stressed that more work is needed.
“Currently, we have 789 ex-combatants undergoing the programme. They are expected to graduate this year,” Musa stated.
He also emphasized that the military is developing strategies to ensure the smooth reintegration of the graduates into society, with the first batch consisting of 391 individuals.
