Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to supporters at the Games Village in Bauchi, Tuggar emphasised the need for purposeful leadership, warning that poor governance continues to limit social and economic development.
“I understand the pain of electoral defeat and the expectations of the people. These experiences have strengthened my resolve to serve with commitment and integrity,” he said.
Tuggar, who represented Gamawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2007 under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), said he has complied with requirements for political appointees seeking elective office to resign.
He also recalled contesting the governorship in 2011 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), where he lost to the then Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Isa Yuguda.
Declaring his renewed ambition, Tuggar said he is returning to the race to drive progress and prosperity in Bauchi State.
“Our state stands at a crossroads. Despite our abundant resources, many people remain poor and lack access to quality education and healthcare. This must change,” he said.
He pledged to promote unity, protect minority communities, and ensure greater inclusion of women and vulnerable groups in governance.
“Leadership must be fair and inclusive. We must create opportunities for all citizens, regardless of background,” he added.
Tuggar also urged voters to support leaders with vision and integrity, stressing that sustainable development depends on collective responsibility and accountable leadership.
