Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to National Unity and Progress in New Budget Proposal

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized the importance of national unity for Nigeria’s growth and prosperity, reiterating that a united country is essential for progress. In a post on X on Saturday, the president reflected on his address to the National Assembly on December 18, where he presented the proposed 2025 budget of N49.7 trillion, titled “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity.”

Tinubu stated that his administration is committed to a future where “peace reigns, opportunities abound, and every citizen can dream, work, and thrive in safety.” He highlighted that national unity is critical in building a nation that will provide long-term benefits to all citizens.

“We have to move forward, not as individuals but as one united nation, determined to rewrite our story for the generations to come,” he wrote.

The proposed budget, designed to promote national growth, aligns with the president’s broader goals of securing peace, fostering prosperity, and offering hope for a better future. During his budget presentation, Tinubu declared that it was time to move beyond lamentations, advocating for greater investment in the private sector and a hopeful outlook for Nigeria’s future.

“The time for lamentation is over. This is a time to act. A time to support and promote greater investment in the private sector. A time for every Nigerian to look hopefully towards a brighter future because a new day has dawned for us as a nation,” the president affirmed.

As the process unfolds, the Appropriation Bill passed its second reading in both the Senate and House of Representatives on December 19. Heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) began defending their budget estimates before the relevant committees of the National Assembly on January 6. The budget is expected to be passed by the end of January.
