Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has ordered that former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele be held at the Kuje Correctional Center until a decision is made on his bail application.
Emefiele pleaded not guilty to a six-count amended charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court has adjourned the case to November 22 to continue the bail hearing. Emefiele’s lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, presented the bail application, which was opposed by Rotimi Oyedepo on behalf of the Federal Government.
Justice Muazu stated that he could not deliver an immediate ruling due to the numerous legal authorities cited by both parties. The Judge requested some time to review the authorities and examine the exhibits provided by Emefiele in support of his bail request.
