Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has urged the Igbo to abandon opposition politics and build alliances with other regions if they want to produce Nigeria’s president.
Speaking on Thursday, Soludo said the South-East must change its political strategy, arguing that years of protests and complaints had not advanced the region’s presidential ambition.
“We (Ndi Igbo) have protested for too long, but this time, we must be part of the game. There is no prize for second or third position. Igbos will become president, but it will be by agreement,” he said.
The governor questioned how the South-East expected to secure federal intervention on challenges such as erosion and poor roads in Anambra State without working with the federal government.
“This erosion and bad roads in Anambra, is it not President Tinubu we will meet to help intervene?” he asked.
Soludo maintained that the region’s quest for the presidency would require negotiation, political cooperation and alliances with other parts of the country rather than protest or isolation.
He also argued that aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s administration remained a practical approach for the Igbo to advance their political interests.
