A federal jury in Los Angeles on Friday acquitted Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk of charges that he orchestrated a murder-for-hire plot targeting rival rapper Quando Rondo in a 2022 shooting that killed Rondo’s cousin.

The jury deliberated for three days before finding the 33-year-old Chicago rapper, whose legal name is Durk Banks, not guilty of conspiracy, stalking resulting in death and murder-for-hire charges.

Durk, best known for his 2023 hit “All My Life,” had been on trial for two weeks in downtown Los Angeles.

The proceedings attracted significant attention, with musicians Machine Gun Kelly and Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, appearing in the courtroom to support Durk. Fans, livestreamers and other content creators also gathered outside the courthouse.

Two of Durk’s co-defendants, Deandre Wilson and David Lindsey, were convicted of conspiracy to commit stalking, stalking using a dangerous weapon and stalking resulting in death. Both men, however, were acquitted of murder-for-hire charges.

Wilson’s attorney, Craig Harbaugh, welcomed the jury’s rejection of the murder-for-hire allegation and said the defense would continue challenging the remaining convictions.

Durk remains in custody as he awaits a separate trial on a racketeering charge that was severed from the case. He has been jailed since his arrest in 2024.

Federal prosecutors had alleged that Durk financed a plot to kill Quando Rondo in retaliation for the 2020 death of rapper King Von, a close friend of Durk and a member of his Only The Family hip-hop collective.

King Von was fatally shot during a confrontation involving members of Rondo’s entourage outside an Atlanta nightclub.

Prosecutors alleged that in August 2022, several men traveled to Los Angeles using funds provided by Durk, tracked Rondo and his associates and later opened fire on Rondo’s Cadillac Escalade near the Beverly Center.

Rondo survived the attack, but his 24-year-old cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, also known as Lul Pab, was killed.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said prosecutors were disappointed by Durk’s acquittal but pointed to the convictions of Wilson and Lindsey for stalking resulting in Robinson’s death.

Prosecutors said they now intend to present their evidence against Durk in his upcoming second trial.
