PDP Sends Delegation to Prevent Governor Fubara from Defecting

Amid ongoing speculation about Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political future, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dispatched a high-powered delegation to Rivers State to dissuade the governor from leaving the party.
Led by Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, the delegation included former Chairman Ahmed Makarfi, elder statesman Olabode George, and Senator Abdul Ningi. The team met with Governor Fubara in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, addressing rumors of his potential defection.
Governor Fubara, who has remained silent on his political plans, expressed doubts about his status within the PDP but acknowledged that the visit from the BoT delegation reassured him of his standing in the party. He emphasized that their visit should dispel rumors about his departure, stating, “We are and still remain members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).”
Senator Wabara underscored the importance of retaining Rivers State within the PDP, stressing the risks posed by a strong opposition in the state. He assured Governor Fubara that the party would address his concerns within the framework of the rule of law and thanked him for his commitment to the PDP. The visit is seen as a strategic move by the PDP to stabilize its position in Rivers State and prevent further defections.
