Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has challenged All Progressives Congress (APC) governors to work hard to secure their states for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Wike spoke on Wednesday at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, warning party leaders against claiming victory if they failed to deliver their respective states.
He said his commitment was to ensure Tinubu won in Rivers State and the FCT, where he is serving as minister and has been assigned campaign coordination responsibilities.
“If you don’t deliver your state and the president wins, don’t say we have won. It is not a question of I am chairman of this, I am secretary of this, I am a member of this,” Wike said.
The minister expressed confidence in the President’s prospects in Rivers and the FCT, attributing his optimism to the administration’s projects in the territory.
“Rivers and FCT, it is taken. I challenge any area council that can say they don’t see the presence of Mr President,” he stated.
Wike also cited Lagos State as an example, telling campaign leaders that they should not celebrate a national victory without securing their own states.
“If you don’t deliver your state and the President win, don’t say we have won. I told the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the other day that if the President did not win in Lagos, don’t say we have won,” he said.
He added that he was pleased to be named coordinator for Rivers State and the FCT, noting that he had told FCT area council chairmen that the projects executed by the Tinubu administration should help secure support for the President.
