The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has said that meaningful development cannot be achieved unless Nigeria overcomes its security challenges.
Speaking during a media parley in Abeokuta on Monday, Adebutu stressed that the safety of lives and property remains the foundation of prosperity, declaring that security tops his agenda ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The problem facing Nigeria today is insecurity. That is why security occupies the first position on our agenda. We cannot build a prosperous society without ensuring the safety of lives and property,” he said.
The PDP candidate also commended journalists for their role in promoting accountability and democratic development, while acknowledging the challenges facing the media industry in Nigeria and across the world.
He urged journalists to remain fair and professional in their coverage as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning against divisive political communication.
Also speaking, veteran journalist and PDP deputy governorship candidate, Lateefah Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, described the media as a critical pillar of the party’s political journey and called on journalists to remain objective and resist intimidation.
She said balanced reporting would help stabilise the political environment and strengthen democratic participation.
Meanwhile, Iyabo Obasanjo, the party’s Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, said the PDP remains committed to improving the welfare of residents.
She argued that despite Ogun’s reputation as Nigeria’s industrial hub, many residents have yet to feel the benefits of that status, urging the media to continue holding public officials accountable.
The state PDP chairman, Abayomi Tella, declared that the party had regained its strength and was ready for future electoral contests, stating that the “PDP of yesterday is back, better and alive.”
