NIMC: NIN and Digital Birth Registration to Boost Nigeria’s Economic Development

The Federal Government is emphasizing the crucial role of birth registration and the National Identification Number (NIN) in advancing Nigeria’s economic development. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), highlighted this in Abuja on Sunday.

Coker-Odusote spoke on the ongoing collaboration between NIMC and the National Population Commission (NPC) to enhance and digitize birth registration across Nigeria. She commended the NPC for its efforts in accelerating the process and assured that NIMC will remain instrumental in advancing the nation’s social and educational development.

“Digital birth and NIN registrations will improve access to essential government services, including education, healthcare, and other social benefits, not just for children but for all Nigerians,” Coker-Odusote stated.

She emphasized that birth registration is a fundamental right and a key component of Nigeria’s development strategy. Coker-Odusote urged civil society and international partners to support the initiative to ensure its success. She also noted that NIMC is committed to facilitating efficient NIN registration, particularly for children under the age of 16.
