The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has cautioned the Federal Government against any attempt to intimidate former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, warning that such actions could tarnish President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s democratic image.
In a statement by MURIC’s Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group expressed concerns over alleged plans to arrest El-Rufai following his criticisms of the current administration and rumored political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
MURIC highlighted El-Rufai’s significant role in securing the APC’s victory in 2023 and Tinubu’s emergence as president, emphasizing that any move against him could be perceived as a crackdown on dissent.
“Considering El-Rufai’s immense contributions to the ruling party’s victory, we advise the government against intimidating him if these rumors are true,” the statement read.
The group further argued that allowing El-Rufai freedom of movement and expression would enhance the Federal Government’s global reputation, reinforcing its commitment to democracy and tolerance.
