The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly opposed the idea of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, succeeding Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the 2027 gubernatorial elections. This opposition follows endorsements from several groups, including the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, who proposed Seyi Tinubu as a potential candidate, and Friends of Seyi Tinubu, who praised him as a visionary leader.
In response, Lagos PDP spokesperson Hakeem Amode dismissed the proposition, stating, “Lagos will not serve him.” Amode emphasized that governance should not be seen as a family inheritance, warning that any attempt to impose Seyi Tinubu as governor would face strong resistance.
“Governorship is not a gift,” Amode told Punch. He pointed out that the people of Lagos had already expressed their opposition to the Tinubu political dynasty in the last presidential election, where they voted against President Bola Tinubu. He further stressed that many Lagosians had rejected the president’s candidacy, signaling their disapproval of Seyi Tinubu’s potential bid for governor.
