Members of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have received the cash component of the Presidential Reward announced for their historic 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket triumph.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while team officials received the equivalent of $50,000.

According to the commission, the payments were made on September 9, 2026, with all players and officials confirming that their accounts had been credited.

D’Tigress won a record fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title and seventh overall in 2025, earning the reward announced by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement issued by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi, the NSC said the latest payment completes the Presidential Reward for the team.

The package also included three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and national honours of the Order of the Niger (OON).

The commission said the players and officials had earlier received title documents for their Abuja apartments and certificates of national honours in February 2026 during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France. The documents were signed by President Tinubu.

The NSC said the cash payment was made after D’Tigress played their final match at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany.

The commission also provided an update on the Presidential Reward for the Super Falcons following their triumph at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in July and August 2026.

It said the Falcons had already received the title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and certificates of national honours during the tournament.

The cash component for the Super Falcons is expected to be paid before their next official engagements, with each player entitled to the naira equivalent of $100,000 and each official $50,000.

The NSC said the rewards were part of the Federal Government’s efforts to prioritise the welfare of Nigerian athletes and were consistent with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope initiative and Shared Prosperity agenda.

It also commended Tinubu for his support for Nigerian sports and acknowledged the contributions of relevant ministries and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation towards implementing the Presidential Rewards in line with due process.
