The New York Knicks have temporarily halted individual ticket sales after acknowledging a pricing error that resulted in seats being listed at significantly higher prices than intended.

The reigning NBA champions began selling individual tickets for the upcoming season this week, with prices for the Oct. 20 season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden starting at more than $1,000 per ticket.

By Thursday afternoon, tickets for the opener had been removed from Ticketmaster, although listings at the higher prices remained available on some other ticket resale websites.

Madison Square Garden Sports, which owns the Knicks, said the team would revise prices and resume sales shortly.

“We are rolling back to last year’s prices plus an average increase of 12%,” the company said Thursday. “We will restart sales with new prices shortly, and anyone who already purchased individual tickets will be refunded the difference.”

The company apologized for the error and emphasized that the elevated prices were not intentional.

“Our intention was never to overcharge our loyal fans, and we thank everyone for their support of the Knicks and their patience as we get this right,” Madison Square Garden Sports said.

Fans who already purchased individual tickets at the higher prices are expected to receive refunds covering the difference once the corrected pricing structure is implemented.
