Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has called on Nigerians to actively support national development by engaging alongside the government and security agencies. Speaking at the 2024 convocation lecture at the University of Ibadan on Wednesday, Egbetokun’s address, titled “Unlocking Progress: The Indispensable Trio of Security, Governance, and Citizens’ Responsibilities,” focused on the need for civic engagement, integrity, and patriotism in Nigeria’s progress.

In a statement from Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP outlined that security, governance, and citizens’ responsibilities are interwoven pillars essential to sustainable development. He encouraged citizens to participate in community policing efforts, which he noted as crucial for enhancing public safety and reducing crime.

Egbetokun reaffirmed the Nigeria Police’s dedication to national security, saying, “National development is a unified effort, requiring security, governance, and civic responsibility to create a peaceful and democratic environment.”

He closed his address by advocating for a collaborative approach to nation-building, urging every citizen to contribute to a prosperous future and support an inclusive path to sustainable growth.
