Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State underscored the critical importance of the power sector in Nigeria’s economic development during a visit to the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, in Abuja on Friday.

Sanwo-Olu commended the Minister for the noticeable improvements in the sector, affirming that no meaningful development can occur without adequate power supply. He urged the Ministry’s directors to continually enhance their performance, emphasizing, “The power sector is crucial for economic turnaround and national development; you must therefore constantly improve on your performance.”

Highlighting the centrality of power to various sectors, Sanwo-Olu urged cooperation between Lagos State and the Ministry to deliver on their mandates and transform the narrative in the power sector. He stated, “Other critical sectors depend on power. I am here to stress how pivotal you are to our development. Power has the potential to transform our country and spur economic growth.”

Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism about the Minister’s capabilities based on his track record, noting, “The private sector is the real engine of growth, and with improved power supply, production costs will decrease, leading to job creation and economic growth.”

The Governor also appealed for special consideration for Lagos State in power infrastructure development, emphasizing its critical role as a microcosm of the nation. Permanent Secretary Mahmuda Mamman of the Ministry thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for the visit and solicited his continued cooperation in achieving their mandates.
