Gov. Abiodun Undergoes APC Screening for Ogun East Senate Race

Dapo Abiodun on Friday appeared before the National Working Committee screening committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of the party’s preparations for the Ogun East Senatorial District primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The screening exercise was held at the APC national secretariat in Abuja and forms part of the party’s internal process for aspirants seeking elective positions under its platform.

Speaking after the exercise, Abiodun described the screening as successful and reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation and continued development of Ogun East.

“I reaffirm my commitment to quality representation, grassroots development, economic growth, and sustained progress for the people of Ogun East Senatorial District,” he said.

The governor also appreciated party leaders and stakeholders for their support and confidence in his aspiration.

“I appreciate the leadership and stakeholders of our great party for their continued confidence in my aspiration. I remain committed to the ideals and progressive vision of the APC,” he added.

According to a statement shared by his Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Emmanuel Ojo, Abiodun assured the screening committee of his readiness to serve with “responsibility, experience and integrity.”

His appearance before the committee comes days after APC stakeholders in Ijebu-Ode reportedly adopted him as the consensus candidate for the Ogun East senatorial race.

At the stakeholders’ meeting, former senator Lekan Mustapha and other party leaders endorsed Abiodun, citing his experience and leadership capacity.

“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha reportedly said.

The meeting was attended by APC stakeholders from across the district, including former and serving lawmakers, councillors, youth groups, and women leaders.

Abiodun had earlier submitted his nomination and expression of interest forms at the APC national secretariat, formally signalling his intention to transition from the executive arm into the Senate after completing his tenure as governor.

He also reiterated that his administration would continue focusing on infrastructure, education, agriculture, and social welfare programmes under its development agenda.
