Fubara Backs Truce with Wike, Says No Price Too Big for Peace

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says he is willing to make difficult sacrifices to ensure peace, stability, and development in Rivers State, affirming that his reconciliation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is in the best interest of the people.

Speaking on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Fubara addressed concerns from his loyalists over his renewed engagement with Wike, following peace talks hosted by President Bola Tinubu on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The two leaders, once allies turned political adversaries, were also seen together at the burial of Wike’s uncle in Port Harcourt another indication of thawing tensions.

Acknowledging the anxiety among his supporters, Fubara said:

“We have fought. And anyone who’s genuine in this struggle knows we’ve done what needed to be done. At this point, the only solution is peace. I said there is no price too big for peace—and I meant it. I’m ready to follow it to the end.”

He recognised Wike’s role in his political rise and insisted that reconciliation can only succeed if both sides agree to move forward with sincerity.

“Nobody can deny the risk Wike took, or the role he played. We had our differences, but if now we must settle, anyone who truly believes in me should understand it’s the right step.”

Fubara revealed that the crisis has slowed down key development projects, saying the prolonged political standoff had diverted attention and resources away from governance.

“This crisis between me and the FCT Minister has delayed many projects. We know the level of progress we would have made by now. So yes, this peace is needed.”

He also pledged unwavering commitment to his base, assuring them that he would not abandon anyone, even as the political landscape shifts.

“This is the time for me to prove to you that I care. Whichever way this goes, I will not abandon anyone. But the sacrifice we must make to achieve peace will be heavy, and I want everyone to be prepared for it.”
