United Nigeria Airlines Grounds Another Jet After Fresh Bird Strike

United Nigeria Airlines has grounded another aircraft after it suffered a bird strike while landing in Abuja, marking the airline’s sixth such incident this year.
The airline said the latest case involved an Airbus A320-200 operating Flight UN0515 from Port Harcourt to Abuja. The aircraft was due to land at about 3:45 p.m. at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when the strike occurred.
According to the airline’s spokesperson, Chibuile Uloka, the bird strike hit the nose section of the plane. “The incident occurred on landing and affected the nose section of the aircraft,” the airline said.
Despite the impact, United Nigeria Airlines said all safety procedures were followed and there was no danger to passengers onboard. “The aircraft has been immediately withdrawn from operations to undergo thorough technical inspections,” the statement added.
The airline described the growing number of bird strikes as “deeply concerning and unacceptable,” warning that some flights may be delayed or cancelled as a result of the latest grounding.
Earlier on Wednesday, the carrier had also reported a separate bird strike involving one of its Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft.
Passengers affected by the disruptions have been asked to remain patient, with the airline saying its team is working to reduce delays while maintaining safety as its top priority.
