Commonwealth Games: Uwachukwu Sets World Record, Claims Gold

Defending champion Goodness Nwachukwu produced a stunning world record performance to claim Nigeria’s seventh gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus event.

Nwachukwu sealed victory with her final throw, launching the discus to 39.66 metres to break her own F42 world record by more than three metres and successfully retain her Commonwealth title.

Wales claimed the remaining podium places, with Funmi Oduwaiye taking silver after recording a throw of 38.52 metres, while Bree Cronin secured bronze with a season-best effort of 36.00 metres.

In the women’s shot put event, Team Nigeria’s Jessica Oji added to the country’s medal haul by winning silver with a throw of 17.87 metres.

Nigeria now sits fifth on the Commonwealth Games medals table with a total of 14 medals comprising:

·       7 Gold

·       5 Silver

·       2 Bronze
