Bala Mohammed Backs PDP Zoning, Shelves Presidential Bid

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has announced that he is suspending his presidential ambition in the interest of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), national unity, and Nigeria’s progress.

Speaking with reporters in Bauchi on Tuesday, Mohammed said his decision followed the PDP’s resolution to zone its presidential ticket to the South while retaining the party’s chairmanship in the North.

The governor explained that his choice was guided by respect for party discipline and fairness to other aspirants, stressing that collective interest must prevail over personal ambition.

“My ambition is not bigger than Nigeria, and certainly not bigger than the party. If I don’t become President, I have held many positions in the past, and I am grateful for that,” he said.

Mohammed, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), described the zoning arrangement as an inclusive resolution reached after extensive consultations, maintaining that it would foster unity, stability, and greater understanding within the PDP.

“Politics is not about personal ambition. It is about self-actualisation within the framework of party decisions, party manifestos, and national development. Everything must be built on sacrifice, not self-interest. We must live and let live, respect each other, and recognise that power ultimately comes from God,” he added.

He assured that PDP leaders, including governors, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees (BoT), remain committed to repositioning the party as the best option for Nigerians ahead of future elections.
