The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency by-election and the Ghari Constituency rerun election in Kano State, citing widespread violence and intimidation by armed thugs.
During the exercise, police confirmed the arrest of over 200 thugs across the state.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party alleged that verifiable reports from Shanono, Bagwai, and Ghari showed voters fleeing polling units as security personnel were overwhelmed by violence.
“The APC calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately cancel the by-elections for Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the Ghari constituency rerun election in Kano State due to widespread extreme violence and election disruption by armed thugs across several polling units,” the statement read in part.
The party warned that proceeding with the elections under what it described as “utter brigandage and outright violent voter intimidation” would undermine the principles of free, fair, and peaceful polls and set a dangerous precedent.
