Adeleke Cracks Down on NURTW, Orders Officials’ Arrest

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the police and other security agencies to immediately halt all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state.

The directive also suspends the collection of all levies in the parks until further notice.

Adeleke issued the order on Thursday during the Osun State Security Council meeting, attended by representatives of the Police, Zone 11 Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NDLEA, Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, FRSC, NAPTIP, WNSN-AMOTEKUN, as well as the Deputy Governor, Chief of Staff, Commissioner for Information and the Special Adviser on Security Matters.

The governor further instructed security agencies to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the NURTW in any motor park across the state.

“I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I’m not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union in our parks. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace,” Adeleke said.

Security chiefs at the meeting assured the governor of full compliance with the directive.

Adeleke also ordered the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising all security agencies in the state to enforce the directive and maintain law and order across the affected motor parks.
