Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has declared that it is his turn to become the governor of Oyo State in 2027.
Adelabu, who contested against Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, made the declaration during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a viral video from the event, the minister, speaking in Yoruba, echoed President Bola Tinubu’s well-known slogan, “Èmi Lókàn” (meaning “it’s my turn”), asserting that he has earned his place in Oyo politics.
“I have been on this journey for a while now. I believe it’s not the day you start politics that you begin to reap the benefits. I have now paid my dues. I contested against Seyi (Makinde) in 2019 and again in 2023 as the sitting governor. But in 2027, God has shown that it’s my turn. It’s Adelabu’s time. Anything that belongs to Adelabu belongs to us all,” he declared.
Adelabu, who returned to the APC in 2023 following his appointment as Minister of Power by President Tinubu, urged party leaders and supporters to close ranks and work together to reclaim the state from the PDP.
“I’m ready to take the lead in a house-to-house campaign, day and night, to appeal to our people so that we can work together and enjoy the benefits of our collective effort,” he added.
