Chief Okey Ahiwe, who served as Chief of Staff under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, has been declared the winner of the governorship primary election held by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

After the passing of Professor Uche Ikonne, who was slated to represent the party in the general election of 2023, the election became mandatory and needed to be held. The following are the results that were announced by Governor Godwin Obaseki, who serves as Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee:
