Jude Chiemeka, Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited, has been appointed President of the African Securities Exchanges Association (ASEA).
Chiemeka’s appointment took effect on September 30, 2026, according to a statement by the association.
He succeeds Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, Chief Executive Officer of the Rwanda Stock Exchange, who previously served as ASEA president.
Chiemeka, who also chairs the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC), will lead the association as it seeks to deepen integration and collaboration among African capital markets.
ASEA said his tenure would focus on improving market liquidity, strengthening regional connectivity, accelerating technology adoption and promoting cross-border capital flows across the continent.
Reacting to his appointment, Chiemeka said stronger integration and technology-driven innovation would be critical to unlocking Africa’s economic potential.
“It is a privilege to lead the African Securities Exchanges Association at a time when capital market integration and technology-driven innovation are paramount to unlocking Africa’s economic potential,” he said.
“Building on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor, Mr. Pierre Célestin Rwabukumba, ASEA will continue to advocate for stronger cross-border investment frameworks, deeper liquidity pools, and sustainable finance initiatives across our member exchanges.”
ASEA said one of the priorities under Chiemeka’s presidency would be to facilitate inter-exchange trading and cross-listing across African markets as part of efforts to deepen cross-border integration.
The association also said he would promote the adoption of financial technology and modern market infrastructure to improve operational efficiency and expand retail investor access.
Other priorities include strengthening links with global institutional investors, increasing local participation in capital markets and promoting sustainable finance through greater alignment of environmental, social and governance frameworks and green bond listings.
In his outgoing address, Rwabukumba congratulated Chiemeka, saying his experience in the Nigerian market and WACMIC positioned him to lead the association.
“Leading ASEA has been an honour, and I am proud of the progress we have made in bringing African exchanges closer together,” he said.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to Jude Chiemeka. His extensive leadership across both the Nigerian market and WACMIC makes him exceptionally qualified to guide ASEA into its next chapter of growth.”
ASEA said Chiemeka has more than 30 years of experience in the capital markets, spanning securities trading, asset management and investment banking.
