NRS Seals Kaduna Electric Headquarters Over Alleged Tax Liabilities

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has sealed the headquarters of Kaduna Electric in Kaduna over alleged outstanding statutory tax liabilities.

The enforcement action was carried out under the Nigeria Tax Act, Nigeria Tax Administration Act and other applicable tax laws, following an order by NRS Executive Chairman, Zacch Adedeji.

A non-compliance notice posted at the company’s premises stated that its owners and operators had failed to meet their statutory tax obligations despite previous notifications.

“Take notice that the owners/operators of this company/business premises have failed to comply with their statutory obligations as prescribed under the extant tax laws,” the notice read.

The NRS warned that any officer or agent of the company found to have breached tax regulations could face prosecution and punishment under the law.

The revenue authority also cautioned against unauthorised interference with the enforcement process, directing that the sealed notice must not be removed without approval.

Taxpayers seeking clarification or resolution were directed to contact the NRS Debt Management & Enforcement Department in Abuja or visit the nearest enforcement office.

An official of Kaduna Electric, who spoke anonymously to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said the notice was posted on Friday.

According to the official, customers at the premises were asked to leave because there were no staff available to attend to them.

The enforcement comes amid a separate regulatory intervention by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) involving the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO).

NERC recently issued Interim Order No. NERC/2026/086, dissolving the company’s Board of Directors over what it described as severe operational inefficiencies, failure to meet required capital expenditure targets and cumulative market debt exceeding ₦456.5 billion.

The order, signed by NERC Chairman, Dr Musiliu Oseni, and Commissioner for Legal, Licensing and Compliance, Mr Dafe Akpeneye, was issued pursuant to the Electricity Act 2023.

NERC subsequently appointed an interim management team led by Mr Abubakar Umar Hashidu as Administrator to oversee KAEDCO’s operations in Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara while restructuring efforts are undertaken.
