President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has identified Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, and Accord Party candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, as politicians whose economic ideas deserve consideration ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ajaero made the remarks during an interview at the weekend while discussing the economic positions of major political figures expected to participate in the election.
Commenting on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s economic philosophy, the NLC president said he had also reviewed the proposals of Adebayo and Olawepo-Hashim.
“I have looked at Gbenga Hashim’s position and I think he’s an expert to an extent. I also looked at Adebayo. I may listen to them,” Ajaero said.
He also compared the economic positions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku and Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, describing all three as strongly market-oriented.
“Peter Obi, Atiku and Asiwaju, they all have the same position and they have shown that they are market people from far right,” he said.
Adebayo, who is contesting on the SDP platform, has advocated social democracy, productive enterprise and a stronger government role in expanding economic opportunities.
His proposals emphasise domestic production, job creation, improved public services and measures to tackle the cost of living, alongside policies on fuel pricing, electricity, education, healthcare and unemployment.
In his policy blueprint, Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity: Governance & Accelerated Development — Blueprint of a New Nigeria, 2027–2031, Adebayo proposed a government performance framework based on presidential monitoring, baseline assessments, quarterly milestones and corrective measures to strengthen accountability and track the delivery of government programmes.
