Prince Harry made his first official public appearance Thursday since moving back to the United Kingdom, as other senior members of the royal family, including King Charles III and Prince William, carried out separate engagements of their own.

The appearances highlighted a new chapter for Britain’s royal family, with Harry developing his own schedule as a non-working royal while the King, Prince William and other senior royals continue their official duties.

Harry arrived at an event celebrating the Invictus Games dressed in a tuxedo and wearing his military medals. He waved to photographers and posed for pictures with members of the Irish Guards.

“It’s good to be back on British soil,” Harry told reporters at the event.

The Duke of Sussex founded the Invictus Games more than a decade ago. The international sporting competition brings together wounded, injured and sick military personnel and veterans. Harry served in the British Army for 10 years, including two tours in Afghanistan.

Thursday’s engagement marked Harry’s first public appearance since he and his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, returned to live in the United Kingdom last month with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Harry and Meghan stepped back as working members of the royal family in 2020 and subsequently moved to the United States.

His return to Britain and resumption of public engagements comes as the Sussexes establish a new chapter for their family while remaining outside the ranks of working members of the monarchy.
