At least 930 people have died in an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.

The fatalities were recorded among 2,344 confirmed cases as of Saturday, the ministry said in an update released overnight into Monday. Thirty-seven deaths were reported within the previous 24 hours, marking one of the outbreak’s highest single-day death tolls.

The outbreak, declared in eastern Congo on May 15, has become the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record.

Health authorities said the outbreak is being driven by the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, a less common form of Ebola for which there is currently no approved vaccine or treatment.
