Tinubu Vows Nigeria Will Not Surrender to Terrorists, Bandits

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will not surrender to terrorists, bandits, or other criminal groups threatening the country’s security.

The president’s message was delivered by George Akume during the national inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

According to a statement issued by presidential aide Yomi Odunuga, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity and easing the economic hardship facing Nigerians.

“Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries,” Akume said on behalf of the president.

He acknowledged the challenges of insecurity, kidnappings, displacement, and economic difficulties affecting communities across the country, assuring citizens that the government is responding with urgency and compassion.

“The government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” he added.

Akume stated that the safe return of Nigerians currently held captive by criminal groups remains a top priority, noting that security agencies are being strengthened and supported to confront emerging threats nationwide.

The SGF also reflected on Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic rule since 1999, describing it as a testament to the resilience of Nigerians and the sacrifices of pro-democracy activists during the June 12 struggle.

With political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections beginning to intensify, Akume urged Nigerians, especially young people, to reject violence, hate speech, political thuggery, and misinformation campaigns.

“Do not rent out your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience,” he warned.

He further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, the media, and families to promote peace, tolerance, and national unity, while also commending the armed forces and other security agencies for their contributions to national stability and democratic governance.
