Dapo Abiodun Wins Ogun East APC Senatorial Primary

Dapo Abiodun has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The result was announced in Ijebu-Ode by the returning officer for the district, Wale Bello.

According to Bello, Abiodun secured 75,550 votes out of 99,503 votes cast across the nine local government areas in the district to win the exercise.

Former Ogun State governor Gbenga Daniel polled 398 votes, while Bukola Braimoh secured 29 votes.

A breakdown of the results showed Abiodun dominated the exercise across the district, recording large margins in most local government areas.

In Sagamu Local Government Area, he polled 8,434 votes, while in Ikenne Local Government Area he secured 8,226 votes. He also recorded 13,469 votes in Ijebu North and 10,942 votes in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.

Declaring Abiodun winner of the primary, Bello commended party members in Ogun East for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, describing the process as “unparalleled.”

In his acceptance speech, Abiodun thanked party members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, describing the outcome as a vote of confidence in his administration.

“I promise that I will not disappoint you; I will give you quality representation,” the governor said.

He also appreciated security agencies, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party faithful, cabinet members, and staff for their support during the exercise.

Meanwhile, his main challenger, Gbenga Daniel, had earlier withdrawn from the race, citing alleged threats of violence.

Supporters of the former governor under the BATOGD Movement announced their withdrawal from the primary on Sunday, alleging plans by some state government agents to intimidate and attack Daniel’s loyalists during the exercise.

The statement announcing the boycott was signed by several political stakeholders and supporters across the district.

The APC primary forms part of the party’s nationwide preparations for the 2027 general elections.
